The Egyptian Angular Composite (pic heavy)

Im so excited to have finally completed this bow. To me it is a great endeavor i took without much information. Im all dressed up for the pictures as a sign, It was like being accepted to a prestigious university with this successful attempt. I plan on making more horn bows. This bow took about 1 year to complete, It has a three piece core, which is basically Osage in the center sandwiched by two bamboo pieces. They are glued with knox unflavored gellatin. I added the horn but since it needed a couple more inches to go to the end I added more osage as well as some osage overlays to carve out the knocks. I would have to say I traded a little speed for beauty. The horn I used came from the gemsbok, I only used 1 horn to get the two pieces. The bow ended up with some reflex and it draws 60lbs @ 28 inches. the bow is also only 52 inches long. I have not tried to draw it more and probably wont try. im going to make another which I will attempt to draw to 32.
The bow is wrapped with birch bark that James Parker (Robustus) gladly gave me. My GF (fiancee now) then painted the bow and I finally covered it with gold leaf and added spar varnish to it. I love the way the bow turned out and that full draw is just awesome. I hope you guys enoy the pictures I had fun making this bow and will have more fun shooting it. By the way the Arrows are made of Arundo Donax from the mediterranean. Osage foreshaft and nocks, the tips are brass made to look like bronze.
By the way special thanks to ames Parker for the input and the birch bark I really appreciate it.

Beautiful job. The full draw does look sweet. Much better than my attempts at this type. 28" draw on a 52" bow... wow! Ron

Very nice! I love the scarab beetle and the rest of the paint job. It just seems appropriate. Josh

I'm pleased for you. It's a proud moment when you realise you've made your first composite
But be careful it's even more addictive than making wooden bows....

Will you post about the giant reed cane(Arunda donax) arrows on the ARROW thread. The only stuff I've seen was ornamental and I thought way too big for arrows.

Victor: Thank you
M-P: thanks.
Slackbunny: the bow is as fast as a recurved bow: not nearly as fast as other composites. I beleive that with a 10 gpp arrow it would be about 170fps only. hopefully next one I can get more draw length and maybe more speed.
Gun Doc: thanks
Del: its nice knowing a cat like you likes my work
thank you
Pat: I believe I do have some, not many. I will try to post some of the horn part.
Auto: thank you
Mike: yea its addicting for sure, what sucks is the wait time, but I think thats one of the factor that makes it more intense.
Pat: I will do that.
