Hand Axe?
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:22:10 pm »
My uncle found this a few years ago laying on the ground in a brushy hollow while rabbit hunting. That hollow is littered with limestone nodules this was made from one of them. It doesnt show as well in the pics as in person but it has been worked the whole way round on both sides of the edges but as the flake scars arent very long it looks to me like someone just put a quick edge on a mostly natural shaped stone. I would imagine that it was a quickly made tool on site for whatever job needed doing and then discarded since an axe of limestone wouldnt hold up very well. Just thought i would post pics and my thoughts on it and see if any of you have any better ideas about it.
