Wood drying opinions?
« on: July 11, 2013, 08:07:28 pm »
This isn't about bow wood so I thought I would post it over here. So for my wedding guest list my fiance wants a bench built that everyone can sign and after the wedding we spray some finish on it to seal it up. We had a large maple log that we sawed from my great uncle's property it has been on the ground for around a year and is showing some spalt. We sawed it 3 inches thick and the log was around 6ft long. I am curious how long it would take to dry if I brought a couple slabs inside? If need be I can put it in the kiln but don't want to if I don't have to. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Daniel

Wood dries at a rate of one inch thickness per year, so, three years for your wood to dry.
