Just finished up on a bow for a friend's wife who recently got interested in archery after I made her husband a bamboo backed hickory longbow. Her favorite colors are purple and black...so obviously I had to consider purple heart. So here's how it finished out. Bamboo backed purple heart longbow, 62 inches tip to tip (60 inches nock to nock), 1 5/16 inch wide out from the center for 8 inches down to 1 1/8 inch wide for 12 inches down to 3/4 inch for 11 inches down to 3/8 inch wide tips. Used purple heart for the tip overlays as well. Belly wood is roughly 7/16 inch depth tapering to 1/4 inch depth at the tips. Shelf is cut to center. Final draw weight is 30# at 25 inch draw length. Originally glued in an inch or reflex into the stave. After tillering and about 50 arrows, there's virtually no set in the limbs. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and so is my wife...now she wants one just like it. Wife was gracious enough to pose for the full draw picture.
