First bow tiller check

I have wanted to try and make my own bow for awhile now and after finding the hickory bow blank from pine hollow longbows I decided to give it a try. I went out and shot it a few times today and it beat my forearm from elbow to wrist. I was wearing a forearm guard and it didnt provide much protection. It seems like to me the limbs are slightly twisted could that be the cause of such a beating.

Your bow arm is too rigid. Try bending your elbow a bit. Also your elbow is way too high on your draw arm. Your drawing arm should be in line with the arrow from your elbow through the arrow to the point. How high is your bow braced?. Any of these can cause wrist slap

Top limb is good, mid limb on the bottom is a little stiff.

The bottom limb does look a bit stiff at mid limb, Bowman.  ;)

It must be your stiff bow are. A little twist in a selfbow is not too bad.

Make sure you are not cocking the wrist of your bow hand back.
The back of yout bow hand should be in line with the back of your forearm, as if you have a wooden ruler tucked under the back of your watch.
Also have your bow arm slightly flexed with the elbow out rather than down as if you are hugging a giant Oak ;D

Proper form definately helps. Went out and shot some more with much better results. Now to put the finishing touchs on her get some finished pics up. Thanks everyone.

Your first bow's tiller is better than most of mine, and I'm around 200 shooters at this point!  Good work!

Del's description of the ruler under the watch band is great advice.  After 12 years I still struggle with that wrist position, especially when I am getting tired.

Looks good to me,what Pat and Del say on the form and you should be fine,7 1/4
is a pretty high brace so that shouldn't cause a problem,is the string lined up down the center of the bow ? If it is off to the shelf/arrow side it will make it more center shot but you will also get more arm slap. :) Either way Great first bow that's for sure. :) :)
