Tacticalfate; Got lucky on the checking on this one. I took six saplings and removed the bark and cambium,
reduced the belly side to rough bow dimensions and immediately sealed the backs with a few heavy coats of shellac. Five of the six got deep checks on the back and checks to the pith on the belly and through the thick handle areas. Not so lucky. This one, the smallest diameter sapling survived without checking. I left it alone for about six weeks resting in my always damp shop then reduced it further before putting into the hot box for about 6-8 days prior to working into a bow.

Something oddly pleasing, to me anyway, in admiring the sweet curves of a finely made self bow.  This one settles easily into that group.  Nice job.
