Thanks guys. There's not much better in the world than puppy breath.
A little history:
We have Puddin's mother, Jasmine. Pudding was delivered with the other 6 pups in my office, where we had a whelping bed set up. Puddin's grandmother (at time of her birth) was the youngest dog to ever win a shoot-to-retrieve championship. Her grandfather was the winningest dog in shoot-to-retrieve history. In her prime, I would have put Puddin's mother, Jasmine, in the field with any dog in the country and she would not have embarrassed me.
Puddin' is a good quail dog. I have to admit, she's a "momma's dog". Schuy has spoiled her since before her eye's were open. And, I didn't work with her as much as I should have done. But, still in her 7 seasons of hunting, there has been 100's of quail shot over her, probably nearing 1000 quail shot over her and a couple hundred drove for her to retrieve.
Last summer we tried to breed Puddin'. She wouldn't stand for the sire, too early. I took her back 5 days later and it was too late. Last fall (even though it meant she couldn't hunt that season), we tried again with a male of great bloodlines, but he was young and unproven as a sire. She stayed with him for three days and no puppies.
This spring we took Puddin' to a proven male, a full brother of the first male, but older from a previous little. She stayed with him for a week.
Given Puddin's age, we were not going to try to breed her again. So yeah, we are excited about the possibility of PUPPIES.
