Just Another Day in Oregon

Thought I would contribute to all the yew related topics. Through a family friend I was able to get access to some private land in the high Cascades in Lane County to harvest some Yew :) I've never seen so many yew trees in one area. And everyone was screaming to be a bow. But I was only allowed to cut a certain amount. I was only able to cut and haul (with the help of my giant brother) half of my allotted volume. Not enough to compete with Keenan and Carson's stash.
Its deffinatly not the best in the world but for me, Iam content. :)

Lol Dave ill have to meet up with yah on the next trip. But I think I might be don't for the year. I got one more trip left in my and I was gonna save it to help another guy get a few on his drying racks. If you want to make the drive over here, I'll let yah pick one out to take home :)

Josh, my shop is about 30 mins west of portland. If you feel up for swing on by and you might leave Oregon with a nice souvenir :)

Nice work! It looks like you hand split some and band-sawed others. Was there a rhyme to that or did you just select it randomly?

I band-sawed a 5" yew log last Spring and it checked in the middle of the stave on a specific growth ring. It was heartbreaking, because it was knot free.

Hope your staves dry cleanly!

   I'd love to go along for the ride, but I have a few yew staves that have been sitting around for a while.  Ask Gordon if I "finish" many bows :P   But I sure have a great time collecting odds and ends and helping others gather wood...any excuse to get out and see some country.
   Yesterday I was shooting that beautiful osage bow you built me.  I really should get some pictures taken and learn how to put them up here.  It was shooting soooo nice..I can't wait until elk season.  Thanks again!

My bandsaw wasnt big enough to run them through so I split them. I stopped at a friends house on the way back, and he was nice enough to run a few of them through his much larger saw.
