Coos Sinew Backed Juniper
« on: June 04, 2013, 06:49:46 pm »
35" tip to tip, pulls 41@18".  Only let the sinew dry for 2.5 months before tillered.  It was mostly tillered when I sinewed, only one layer laid down with knox.  The sinew came out a lot cleaner after seeing Bryce's buildalong  8)  I reverse braced it about 5" and it keeps about 1" in the outer limbs when unstrung, the inner limbs take some set when first unstrung giving it a cool gull wing look, but it comes back to just past straight after sitting for awhile.  The thing looks like a propeller looking at the back straight on, but it evens out and the string is pretty close to centered.  This was a piece of juniper from the Warm Springs reservation that my Siuslaw elder Doug got for me, had bug damage and a pretty high crown so I decrowned it, and I'm really impressed with juniper, this thing is pretty fast(for me) and has a real high early draw.  This bow will be donated to our Canoe Journey fund.  I think I'm gonna salmon skin it and maybe cherry or cedar bark the handle.  Thanks for looking :)
