hard maple backing strip question?

I have a 62"ttt elm pyramid that I heat treated about 3" of reflex into and a maple backing strip that varies from 1/8 to maybe a little under 3/32".the grain is decent was wondering if that is a bit thin for a 55# bow?thx's bb

1/8 thick is fine. I built a maple backed cherry bow a couple years ago that is 55 pounds at 28 inches, and the maple strip was 1/8 wide. It was better grain that what you have though.

It's hard to see the grain well. Almost all my backing strips in ash, maple or hickory are 1/4" thick, or even 3/8" for heavy bows, but if you don't go too heavy, that should be fine.
