Boats, lumber,and a chainsaw mill

I have two kayaks that I need to restore pictured is one of then. I needed 16 foot long runners from ash to restore this boat. It just happened that during my timber stand improvement a perfectly straight long 13 inch in diameter tree of 18 feet had to be cut. With no easy way to get the log to a mill I ordered a chainsaw mill that attached to the chainsaw seen in the picture below. I have seen this before but thought it was kinda not for real but you be the judge. I have included a couple of pictures of the boards it produced. In the last ast picture the boads on top have been planed. The picture with the keys is an unplaned board.

I have considered such a mill to cut gunstock blanks, couldn't decide on which one. I have been cutting blanks out by hand, not too neat and lots of waste but works.

What size saw do you have?

I always wondered how Eric was getting such awesome grain thru the wrists of his guns.  Duh!  He was cutting trees with "knees".  The logging industry hates those and calls the knee waste wood.  Guys that build fine rifles call them the gold standard!

Nice work, Iowabow!  You got some wonderful planks to work with now!  But now you have to build a 16 ft in-feed table and a 16 foot out-feed table for the table saw so you can cut your strips!

Bow you just brought me back to a great place.
When I was younger my father and I would spend all weekend ripping lumber with our "alaska mill" for our addition.
They are great but you need to be careful to keep your first cut level.  Then again it's been years so maybe they found a solution to that.
