West Coast bow / Tenn. Classic stave
« on: May 14, 2013, 05:17:42 pm »
Here is my first short, wide, West coast bow. I was blessed to come home from the Classic with one of Clyde's mulberry staves. The stave was only about 54 in. and I came up with this 2 1/2" wide at the fades, 51 in. ntn shorty. I plan on using it in the kayak to kill some buffalo (the kind that swim). I don't have time to do a dugout canoe, so the kayak will have to do.

I was shocked at how hard this bow hits...it's 50 lbs. @ 24 in. It is surprisingly accurate out to 20 yards with a little practice. Short drawing seems awkward at first, but after a while it's really quite easy.

Hey Rich, (half eye) I just found your post from a couple of months ago on tillering the short bows...wish I would have seen it earlier. I'll just have to build another....loved the tillering advice and the finishing as well.

Thanks
Lyle

Very nice work Raghorns. I like the style and it sure looks like a bow that would be fun to shoot. I would like to see pics of side profiles, both braced and unstrung if you have some, A nice bow like that deserves more photos. :)
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Nice bow, Lyle!  I sure like the way you decorated it.  That style has been on my to-do list for some time now.  Thanks for the motivation!

From the styling I would guess it would bend through it's length but it's got good tiller for that stiff handle. Interesting bow. Well done sir!

I'm not typically one to question folks but do you typically shoot 50# for bowfishing? I guess its different cause I shoot wheels for bowfishing and full draw it but we shoot between 30-40.
