Simple (and first) osage...(kinda pic heavy)
« on: May 17, 2013, 01:19:18 am »
So, here's my first shot at osage. I know it looks like it's stiff in the bottom limb outer third, the stave had a tad bit of natural reflex at the end. about 69" long, somewhere between 40-45 @ 28. I really like this yellow bodark stuff... ;D Jatoba tip overlays. Shoots real nice, I don't notice any handshock. I'm also more accurate with this bow than my others, I don't know why. Maybe Osage is magic... ::)
It's about a 1.75" wide at the fades, tapers to an inch about 8 inches from the tips, then tapers down from there to 3/8" nocks. There was a small knot in the bottom limb, too.

Looks good to me.  Congratulations.  Osage is some great bow wood.

Nice job. Never worked Osage myself. Have to snag a stave of it sometime.

You have plenty of length to pike it if you adjust the tiller and need to raise the poundage. a tillering gizmo would tell you a few things about the tiller. Looks like the top limb isn't bending much for the first third. Bottom is stiff out of the fade, kinda' hingy at mid limb and pretty stiff in the outer third.

Make yourself one of these and check those limbs, it will tell you a bunch of stuff you eyes might miss.

Nice work.  Have to agree with Eric's comments on tiller, though pictures can be tricky.  But if it shoots for you...then shoot it!  The stuff is magic you know.
