Cool topic, one my Dad always would say to me is "Anything worth doing is worth doing right" and I always have this in my contious thaught. Though it is hard for me to finish things before starting something new lead my grandfather to commonly say "You have to many irons in the fire" :o >:D ;D
My two cents worth of wisdom

There are so many great quotes on here, with so many positive sayings. I grew up with a military dad who was quite harsh most of my life. I always got the same two quotes from him unfortunately.

"if clues were shoes , you'd be barefoot"
"If brains were trains, you'd have missed yours"
This was usually followed by  a loud "you dough head"

I hated my dad for 37 of my 47 years, until an aunt flew in to my hometown, and helped with an "intervention", and got my dad and I to talk again. Only through the power of prayer, and a love of an aunt, could this have happened.
I say this not to be a downer, but to remind us as parents and grandparents of the power of positive (or negative) words.
Great quotes on here, I've enjoyed reading them.

You'd be surprised how often I use that one!

There is nothing that can be accomplished with foul language that can't be accomplished without it. I'm sure someone smarter than me has said it but after growing up with my dad I kinda conjured that up as my own philosophy. Ron

A few I haved heard and used over the years

Every dog is bold in its own yard.

It is not a fish until it is on the bank.

I have always enjoyed Mark Twain's wit.  He had a way of insulting you, and making it sound like a compliment.  Here are a few of his quotes.

"While I did not attend his funeral, I wrote a nice letter, saying I approved of it."
"Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of good example."
"Wagner's music is better than it sounds."
"Public Servants;  Persons chosen by the people, to distribute the graft."
"A King is a King by accident;  the reason the rest of us are not Kings is due to another accident;  we are all made of the same clay, and it is a sufficiently poor quality."
"Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress.  But I repeat myself."
"Speaking of burglars....... I am disposed to allow them credit for whatever good qualities they possess.  Chief among these... is their great care while doing business to avoid disturbing people's sleep."
"It used to be a good hotel, but that proves nothing.  I used to be a good boy, for that matter.  Both of us have lost character of late years."
"When I was 14, I couldn't believe how ignorant mt father was.  But when I turned 21, I was amazed at how much he had learned in seven years!"
and for now, one he wrote while he was staying in a meager hotel.  He had asked for a lamp to read by.  When the porter brought two candles, he said " Light them both.  I'll have to have one to see the other by."
And finally, one of my favorites, that President Reagan quoted, "Politics is the second oldest profession in the world.  Which bears a striking resemblance to the first!"  On the same note, one from Will Rogers, Talking about people complaining about the government.  We should be proud of our government.  After all we have the finest politicians money can buy!"

My dad told me that his dad said to him "Don't have kids and tell your kids not to have kids."

I think this was Will Rogers
There is the fellow who can learn by reading about it then there is the fellow who can learn by watching someone else and then there is the fellow who has to pee on the electric fence for himself.

Couple more...

"Some days you eat the Bar, and some days the Bar eats you...  (Bear)

"Chicken today, Feathers tomorrow"... (Everything in its time, or order)

And a couple from my Stepfather Mike "Pop", which I heard prolly 10,000 times each:
He called me "Bean" as in "You're growing as fast a Bean Stalk".

"Bean I set you this task, and I see you Fudging along, your heart ain't in it"...
He'd say: "When you're working you should Work Like You Live..."
I'd say "Like I Live? How's that Pop?"
He'd say, "Well you Live Good don't cha Beam?"
I'd say "Yes Sir!"
"Then Work Like You Live... Good".

But his All Time Golden Rule was.
"Do It One Time, The Right Way."
I have used this axiom in every type of job or pursuit imaginable.
From Baking Pies at Flying Saucer Pies here in Houston.
Building pipeline bridges all over the U.S..
IT work all over...
Training horses in my youth...
Skydiving... (it really has special meaning here...)   8)
To building Bows and Arrahs...
You name it.
Most of my Scars and broken bones came while learning this Golden Rule...

Both of these saying went hand in hand.
And if you heard one, the other was sure to follow... :)

Yesterday is ashes...Tomorrow is wood...Only today doe's the fire burn brightly"----Eskimo Proverb

I like that.. It echoes Isaiah 61:3 To give them beauty for ashes..

I like the "washed in the blood." BUT can someone explain what it means?

My kindergarten class came up with Easy peasy frijolitos... They like that one.. And I ask almost daily to respond to a question, "does a bear live in the woods?" To which the answer with a smile, "yes he does."

What does this mean, "there's more than a slip that brings a cup to a lip." It comes from the movie Young Guns..

Cipriano
I was HECHO EN MEXICO, but assembled in Texas and I'm Texican as the day is long...  Psalm 127:4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

I heard a song like that when I was little and it always stuck with me
