Primitive Longbeard!!
« on: April 30, 2013, 11:10:41 am »
I shot this beard at about 10 yards with a 45# osage bow, cane arrows and a knapped head I made from a piece of Georgetown. The bird came in strutting and was ready to mount my decoy when I shot. I hit him right where I was aiming, rear end bulls-eye shot..Unfortunately not only did i hit the bird but I killed my decoy too..He weighted in at 18# and sports a 10"  rust colored beard.Great morning in the spring woods

That is well worth the cost of a new decoy. Well Done!

EXCELLENT and congrats!  I look forward to some day having such a go!

I thought I was the only one gobbler hunted with a self bow. You the man I havn't had a shot yet but have passed on 6 jakes a nd have had 8 long beards in shot gun range.
I killed my jake about 10 years ago it was a nice clean pass through. On the decoy not the gobbler. Killed him 2 days later though.

Wow Bill, that's awesome! Think of the decoy as a drift anchor and it's not such a loss.
