58" red oak flat bow

I just finished this red oak flat bow. Pretty simple. 58" NTN draws 35# @ 27". 1.5" wide at the handle . parallel limbs until the last 12 ", then tapering to 1/2" at the tips. I did a leather handle wrap. I learned a lot in the process of making this bow. I want to make my next one in this same style but with a 40-45 # draw weight. I've shot  about 70 arrows threw it so far. Sorry, I don't have a lot build pics. I'll try to document the next one.

brace actually look's like the outer limbs aren't bending  and the middle is doing it all, can you post a full draw

Bub beat me to it.....yeah...you need more bend from mid limb out,and too much is bending in and around the handle...but congrats on getting a shooter

im not sure what to think, if it was over stressed in the middle then why did it only take like an inch of set? its a bit weird because all my bows which bend more evenly are much higher set. so im wondering if maybe his tiller isnt so bad after all.

I do think the outer limbs should bend more. I need to get someone to shoot a pic while I draw the bow.

I do almost all my f/d shots with the timer on my camera if that's an option

+1 with what the others said. It needs more bend in the limbs. I'd check for chrysals under that handle wrap too. Oak has a tendency to chrysal easily. Like you said, this bow was a great learning experience, and hopefully your next one will be even better!  ;D Nice job.

I took a shot with the timer. didn't come out great but I can see that outter limbs are not bending enough. I flipped the pic and added some guide lines to help see the symmetry.

Mike the braced pic rarely lies. When your braced bow has a traingular shape to it, your drawn profile will to most often. You need some serious wood removal on the whole limbs. Leave the center 12" alone.

What's happening at brace is only magnified at full draw.

OK. I've been reworking it. I've done a lot of scraping to get to this point. It's not there yet but it's moving in the right direction.

Better, still needs a bunch more work in the outer limbs. My guess is that you'll be down to at least 25lbs by the time it's fixed up.
