Arrow Material in the NE?

Does anyone know what Aboriginal tribes in the Ontario/Québec region used for arrow shafts?

whatever shoots they could find that were stiff and could be straightened.  split birch, mebbe spruce?

Look around you.  What was growing 400 years ago is still growing today

I'm with Pekane, just about anything that grows straight. If you waned to split some birch or something like that. Birch shoots also work pretty good I think.
