87 lb trilam ELB

It's been a while since I posted a bow, so I thought I might share this one since it's my first crack at an ELB.  It's a trilam consisting of osage, ipe, and a hickory backing.  It pulls about 87 lbs at 31 inches.  The bow is 72 inches nock to nock and weighs 687 grams.  The string is 14 strands of fast flight, weighing 7 grams.  I've had a couple chances to launch some arrows with this bow, and so far my best distance was 216 yards with a livery-weight arrow (measured with a rangefinder).  I'm new to warbow shooting, but I'm told that is a respectable cast for a bow of this weight and length.  I'm sure the bow's performance is hindered by my poor form as well.

I never really pictured myself becoming an English Longbow junky, but these things sure are fun to shoot, so I'm sure I'll be making more in the future!

That hint of extra stiffness on the lower limb is prob just right.

Nice! Its looks like your core lam of ipe is parallel and all the taper is done with the osage. Is that right?

Thanks for all the comments guys.  Del you are one of the long bow gurus around here, so if you you figure the stiffness is ok, you'd know better than me.  Before this all I've ever done with ELB's is look at them :)

Lesken, you are right.  All of the lams were parallel at glueup. Any taper in the osage is just the result of tillering.

Del, this does seem to be a great combo so far - it didn't start taking any noticeable set until I got over 25 inches on the tiller tree.  I haven't measured the set yet but I think it is quite low.  It had a bit of string follow after my long tillering session last night, but I suspect most of that has come out after relaxing overnight (haven't checked yet, just crawled out of bed ;) )

Nicely done, Grasshopper! Spot on tiller for your first warbow/ELB! I can't wait to go out with yah and see how she shoots! Guess we gotta get you some proper arrows made for that beast. Once again, good work.
