Modified shorty
« on: November 04, 2007, 11:49:15 pm »
I haven't had much time for bow making lately, school taking up most of my time, but I found time to tweak a bow I never thought shot very well. It is plain and simple, but I kept the docorations off with the mindset that it needs to be simple if I am going to take it hunting as I hoped to when I originally made it.
Some of you may remember this bow, it was labled "New Hunting Bow", and I liked it, at least how it looked. It never shot well enough for my taste, it kicked badly in the hand and was really picky about which arrows it shot. So, on my standards, it was practically a dud. I never shot it because it was hard to handle, and I was getting about two foot groups at 10 yards.  :o :P
So, I thought, why not cut it down and give it another go? Of course, it was already short (48"), but I decided to try. Total length is 43.5" ntn, width, 1 1/4" wide, tapering to 1/2" pin nocks. It is now about 53lb@24", a stout little bow, perfect for thick brush. I darkened the wood, so it will blend in better when on the hunt. The mini recurves on the ends keep the string angle lower, so stack is not as severe as one would think. It is now a smooth shooter, and ain't so finicky now about what it shoots.
I plan on hunting Hogs, Deer, and Turkey with this, just as I had hoped.
