tiller from brace hight ??????
« on: April 04, 2013, 08:12:51 pm »
Hey everyone I got my hickory longbow tillered with a longstring and I can string it at brace hight.  My question is this. Can I brace it and then tiller or should I tiller with a low brace and then go onto full brace? Im getting confused atm so any advice on the subject would be great.  Thanks,  SS

A low brace height and a high brace height will have the same draw weight at full draw so it really doesn't matter.

I think you should take the advice that darksoul gave you earlier in the other post

My first brace is 2-3 in. Then I increase the brace height as I bring it to full draw. Little by little. Inch by inch or in your case, Squirrelslayer, 2.54 cm by 2.54 cm. :) Jawge

I do similar to George. My first brace is to about 3" and only after I get 5" to 6" of tip movement on a long string(slightly longer than the bow) and both limbs appear to bend evenly and together. This first low bracing lets me see how the string tracks and if there is any limb twist so I can make adjustments before continueing the tillering process. Having your limbs bending evenly and together early in the process will help assure your desired draw weight after the tillering is done.

I always tiller at brace, never exceeding a 7 inch brace ( some think thats too high ) until the tiller at brace is perfect. I floor tiller until the bend is perfect in both limbs, then for straight to a 3 inch brace, then 6 or 7, then work on reducing draw weight to my intended draw length/weight.
