OldBow, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's canary.  ;)

I burned some shavings today and it did have a hint of that sandalwood-like smell. It just doesn't have the odor when it's cut or scraped hot. The extractives may have 'seasoned out' before I got to it. The pieces I had to work with were about 2x2 and well warped so it was probably laying around for a while. The grain patterns are a lot more linear and uniform than any canary I've seen, so the jury's split.
