Portable bow vice (Pics added)
« on: April 03, 2013, 08:55:40 am »
I saw someone post on this idea a while back and decided to give it a try. I conjured up some "scrap" steel at work and welded up a simple vice stand that will go in the receiver on my truck. It works great! Now I can just pull off the road anywhere and let the shavings fly! It has just enough room to let the tail gate down or the vice will pivot and I can work in another direction. With warm weather approaching, I envision a lot of outside bowyering in the near future.  Lots of excellent ideas posted on here. I'll get some pics up tonite.
The portion going into the receiver is 2" heavy walled tubing with a 45 degree bevel for easy aligning. The riser is standard 2" x 2" tubing with 1/4" tread plate welded on for the vice.

Can't tell you how many times I've been clocked at 80 mph while thinking about tillering!

Sorry officer, I was thinking about wood... I mean bending wood, I mean stringing it up. Ahhh never mind, just gimme the ticket already.

Nice set up,I thought about making one of them and also mount another receiver to one of my benches in the shop so I could use it on the road or at the shop. Thanks for reminding me of that project. :)

If you are ever hogging off osage sapwood with a dull drawknife, you might wanna set the emergency brake!

I want one of these for my jeep!
