a little trick for large osage

just a little trick for cracking open those large logs,use chain saw and saw in to the end of log with the grain as much as possible,,i cut the logs a few inches long so this sawn end can be sawed off later,,once the log is halfed they split pretty easy,,

I figured that trick out a little late in the game. I was so focused on splitting, and "you have to follow the grain", that trying to split the big ones often resulted in the split running sideways off the log. Finally realized a little help from the chainsaw hurt nothing.

I am waiting on a call from a guy to go cut some more osage myself, and your pictures are making me antsy.
