The red elm in question

Here is the bow I Made from that piece of red elm. I wasn't sure that it was in fact red elm, but after talking with some of you, I guess it is. it made a fine bow, little to no set, it's just not as tough of wood as the white elms.  it's 66" long and 50# @ 28"

Sweet bow! I just worked with red elm for the first time too, it makes a nice bow IMO. Great job on that one!

When you say not as tough do you mean the wood is softer when worked???

That bow turned out very nice!!!

yup, way softer than American or Winged elm.  This split pieces of easy compared to my southeastern elms!

Good lookuing bow Ryan. Try some elm saplings one day, you will appreciate their toughness.

Nice looking bow. I agree red elm is soft. It dents easily but also works easily. Nice job on that piece.
