6 new bowyers
« on: March 29, 2013, 12:24:51 am »
Our local Game Fish and Parks with a lot of community involvement has built an Outdoor campus open to the public and manned by volunteers, provide learning opportunities for people of the surrounding area.  Last March I held a class on bow building with 4 students.  5 consecutive Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm with some help on weeknights for those hard to deal with staves.   We started with bark on staves that were aged about 4 years and by the 5th session all 4 successfully shot their bows.  This year I made 2 more shaving mules and we will have our third session Saturday.  Just wanted to share the efforts of these 6 individuals who have their bows roughed out and will be starting the tillering process this week.   will keep you updated as they progress   4 are osage, 1 hackberry, and 1 black locust

That is a cool deal.  I bet you are going to have to make a few more shave mules before long.

bows were floor tillered today, nocks added, and they all learned to make a flemish string.  we'll get serious about tillering on the tree next week.

Now that is the way to give back.  Great job, and a great looking gathering place too.

Shame on you for spreading this form of hanky-panky!   >:D  Next thing you know these people are gonna wanna go out and shoot these bows!  And we all know what that leads to. right?  Hunting!

Oh, the humanity!

Hey!  How come you aren't in any of the pictures?
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
