26 1/2" ok?

hey all i have a question, the spliced maple bow im working on will have a 4" spliced handle and 26 1/2" working limb is that going to be ok for a bow with a 29" draw? im aiming to make the bow around 35-40# so does this sound possible? thanks. SS

26 1/2" working limbs is too short for 29" draw.  There are a few that could probably pull that off, but they are masters of the craft.  I have to ask, why do you need a 29" draw?  That's an extraordinarily long draw for the average archer.  I know a few orangutans with longer draws, but they are very large individuals with freakishly long arms.  Unless your drawing warbow style, I'm betting your draw is considerably shorter.  I would check to be sure.  Remember, if you design for a longer draw than you have,  the bow will be very poor in performance as it will not be working to full potential.  I truly hope that you don't make me regret responding to your question Squirrel.   Josh

If your limbs are 26 1/2 inchs long then that's about your max draw right there

Well, he really didnt say it was for him ya know... And when other folks let people shoot their bows, its always good to have a little safety margin. Just saying.

no the bow isn't for me it is for someone with an average draw of 28 1/2 and i wan't it to be around 29" just to be safe. if it dosn't sound possible i can always make him another one but longer and make this one for me as my draw is arround 26-7" SS

hahaa My draw is 28"+ with bows of 50 pounds or so. With heavier(60-80) warbows, I can barely handle 24". With anything over 80, forget it. I cannot hangle anything over 85 pounds( hey,I am 14 and still growing, 5'2, and I think a 28 inch draw is good:))

If you're making it for someone else, make something else more stable and durable (and DOable!).  Now as for this spliced bow, sounds like it might make it for you're draw? You may can eek a bit more than 26.5 inches of length out of the limbs with some "barely there" pin nocks, or some strategically placed overlays, but that's pushing it for a newbie.
