Young archer short on cash... need some arrowshafts
« on: March 15, 2013, 03:01:32 pm »
Well, I am too young to drive anywhere, I need some arrow shafts, and I have the following for trades-
River cane and plenty of it, about 3/4 inch diam or so. Some 1/2 and 3/8, but not much. I will cut it when you tell me what you want.
Black Locust stuff... varies every week. I love BL, and use it a lot. Most of what I have is around 2-3 inch diam, 38 inches long or so, not good for making bows.
Ducttape :D
Some 16 ga plate steel, mild, low carbon. I can cut broadheads out if you want them, or some other point. However, it takes me a while, I use a hacksaw, with dremel grinding wheels to sharpen.
Rawhide. Its cattle rawhide, but it has been thinned to about 1/16th inch. 1' square pieces. I can make cord and laces for making bowstrings.
Ash wood, I might make some arrows...
Oak foreshaft pieces. I usually use them to make honeysuckle arrows, but am tired of making those... I want some nice, solid arrows.
the oak pieces are 12 inchesx1 inch diam. not very round.
I will go through my stuff, and add to this list.

Kentucky. I have river cane, just need some shafts within a week or 2 for a shoot I am going to with uncle.
Plan to show off a primitive bow VS some factory bows my uncle has.

I cannot buy them... wayyyy to short on cash.
My total amount of cash totals around $10, plus parents will not let my buy from anything other than amazon.

Oh yea... problem with RC- I love it, but cannot wait around 6 months...

I am very willing to bet there is a way to bake cane shafts in the oven until they stop loosing moisture. Then they will be dry. I will save you the trouble of doing it and do it myself. I will report to you the temps and times, and amount of weight lost soon as I am done.

Here ya go, now you want 5/16 to 3/8 diameter shafts at the base, second year growth ( you can tell by the old leaves on the stalk if they are brown, the boo is second year ) go cut some and make you some arrows... By the way, its the easiest stuff in the word to heat straighten...

I live in Northern KY, up in Boone County.
Anyway... POC is my fave arrow wood. Strong, light...
Straight too.
So.. I feel bad just accepting arrowshafts. What you want in trade?
I have an old circular saw blade, plus one I cut in half(I still have half).
I can send you that, or some BL stock(unseasoned) about 35 inches long, 3 inches diam for making BL shafts. I have 3 pieces of it, cut yesterday. I would like to keep 2 to make shafts once it dries- a month.
Thanks a TON
