Very nice, really like the knotted up wood!

Thats a great looking bow! Is the back right under the bark or did you decrown it? Been thinkin bout doin an erc but with rawhide backing. Hows she shoot?

Now I'm wondering! Decrowned or under bark?? Did you have knots on the back at all?
Real nice either way!

Thats pretty wood for sure.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Came out great! I think it is a bit long for sinew, but anyway if it shoots good, why not.
This is a beautiful wood - wish I have some ERC

Nice....I absolutely love the belly, it is beautiful. Something like that across my lap while hunting would be distracting because I would be staring at it instead of looking for deer.

Thanks for the kind words fellas!

As for the back of the bow - it is just under the bark/cambium layer I did not decrown.  I did not decide to add sinew until after I shot it for a while and it began taking a little set.  I put in just a tiny amount of reflex when I added the sinew and after a few hundred shots it stays nice and straight.

The knots were not too bad on the back - pretty small - I shot it for a while without backing.

Kip - that it funny!  If we had audio you could sing that phrase on here!  :D
Enjoy the hunt!  Mitch

Well that answers one question I had about ERC, you can use the sapwood to make a bow.  I didnt know if the bow could or needed to be all heartwood or not?  I just cut up two large ERC trees that blew over in a windstorm.  Need to split them into staves and various useable pieces.
