There's plenty blade there to re-haft it. That sucks though. I feel your pain.

Re-haft it, and then show the "Girlfriend" how sharp it is, and then either sit her
down, and explain how fragile obsidian is, and the skill, and time it takes to make a blade like that, or get another Girlfriend, that is not so inclined to step on things. ;)
I think I would have to tell her not to touch another thing in the house, and to sit down, and wait for a half hour, read a harlequin or something, while I go outside to cool down.  Boy that is a sickening sight.  Too bad, but poo poo happens, so just re-haft it, and go on.  Just don't leave it out again. ;)

Frame it and say, "This blade was broken in use... probably while butchering a mammoth or other large animal."

That's what the archaeologists do.   ;D

Don't let her near the turkey feathers, or arrows, or bows, etc. ;)
Tell her those feathers are not part of a duster kit! >:( ;) ;D ;D ;D

Pretty rocks are more abundant, cheaper and durable than like girlfriends.  Therefore, the punishment should be inversely proportional  to the pulchritude of said offender.

My sad story...
« Reply #12 on: March 04, 2013, 05:14:59 pm »
Here's my sad story. Note the crack on one ear that I glued back on and used purple crayon to make it look like a natural flaw. It was the last punch. I should have stopped! It's purple novaculite 3 3/4 X 2 1/2. I guess stepping on a hafted one is worse though, but this was the first Calf Creek I ever finished and the picked back up to fine tune...then....you know the rest of the story.

I think it should be written in the flint knappers handbook. Do not take the last flake! Lol 😱

Good advice. I have Broken many a point on the last flake. Now I cringe every time I take the last finishing flakes.
