Smoked Sinew?

I was at the feed store the other day and saw a package of 5 cow foot tendons(sinew).  It is smoked sinew  (not bull penis).  There are 5 in a package for 9$.  Each is about 1/2 in in diameter and about 8-9 in long.  I have already shredded some and it acts like the deer sinew i have.  Is that a good price and does it hurt the sinew if smoked?

You could always buy you a red oak board, make a 55" eastern woodlands D bow and sinew the back with it and call it an experiment.  If it worked you would know, if not your out $20 and some time.

Heck!  I'd try it for sure!  And that is a good price if the sinew is raw.  I think they just dip in in smoky flavor, so it should be good.   ;D

It should work for the kind of bows most of us make here.  But an expert hornbow maker would prolly choke on his coffee after reading this.   :o

If your gonna use it for bow backing then I highly suggest degreasing it first

Most smoked items are soaked in a brine for a long time. The salt and induced grease oozing would make me hesitant. Clean sinew is so easy to come by, why risk it?

Holy crap...didn't even see that....its a 3000 post party for me...n hey pearly your about to hit the 4000 post party....lol.... :laugh:

Yeah that stuffs gotta be quite greasy...hence why it'll need a good washing...I personally wouldn't chance it either when clean sinew is easy to obtain
