orangeman89's first osage longbow
« on: February 24, 2013, 04:41:04 pm »
Hi All,
I just completed my first Osage longbow.  It is 66" and 50lbs.@28".  I dyed it walnut brown and did a pretty crappy job with the finish work.  I want to thank Chris (Blackhawk) for having me up to his home to watch/talk to a real master.  I learned a lot and got to see a pile (literally) of REALLY fine work.  Chris was also kind enough to trade me some of his seasoned stash for some of my green wood.  By the way, the bow in the picture is from Osage that I cut a little over a month ago and has been speed dried out of necessity.  My next few will be from seasoned wood.  My son acted as bow model for the photos.  I had him short draw the bow since his real draw length is 30".  Please provide any and all feedback as to how I can improve.  Thanks for looking.  Mark

Hm, wish I could help you re-size the photo.  I'd love a better look at the bow.  But since you got help from a certain overstimulated bow freak, I think it would be safe to say you more than likely got a good bow!

Congrats on a shooter right out of the gate.  You are now officially considered an addict.  Go make another.

Yup, looks mighty good.  Here's hoping you post some pics in the hunting threads next fall...especially pics with red arrows displayed prominantly!

Your doing very well for a beginner mark...you should be happy...sometimes it takes folks a dozen or more times to get a bow like that....keep up the good work :)
