need guidance,,,help.. on new bow set up..
« on: February 24, 2013, 08:55:27 am »
hello again,, I picked up a osage bow,,about 55" long 28" draw 50lb pull.. 6" brace..but it has nothing on it,no arrow shelf/rest or arrow nocking point..so  where does arrow "center" ? atcenter between strung bow string measure from limb across string to limb, then center arrow on center,,then put a rest inline with that,,,seems that'd be right but wanna check..this seriously needs a grip/handle/leather wrap..recoil is very noticeable!! an feathers cut knuckle now... thanks for any advice...this is the plainest janest bow ever seen,,,but it shoots! Thanks! Rc

Hopefully this isn't your first impression with a selfbow? They aren't inherently loud or hand shocky. Generally soother than glass actually.

Here is what I would do. Lower the brace to 5" and work up to a max 5 5/8". Short, unbacked bows benefit from a lower brace. Find center and mark 1 1/2" up. Start there as an arrow pass. Don't shoot any arrows. Just pull it half draw until it balances PERFECTLY in your draw arm and bow hand. Place a nock point accordingly and mark your riser with a pencil. Get a piece of 1" by 30" leather strap and wrap it. Start the wrap one row high on top to use as an arrow pass ledge.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.
