Knappable Rock Resource Page...

AncientArcher76:
Thanks Patrick, I found the source on the internet so I did discover there are some missing chert sources..for instance here in newyork there are cherts coming from some of the major rock formations but aren't listed such as helderburg.  One of the main reasons I posted was for the newyork people to see if they don't know that there are more than 3 types of knappable rocks .  It is a start and can be a quick reference for most people.  Thanks!

Russ

Newbow:
A source that doesn't give at least approximate locations and doesn't mention obsidian in Oregon (of all places) is hardly complete and not particularly useful in itself, though it might give someone an idea to do a search on some particular stone type that happens to be mentioned.

Wolf Watcher:
Not sure I trust this list:  At least in the states I have knowledge of.  Montana without Montana Moss Agate,  Wyoming without jasper and agate, obsidian (Yellowstone).  Oregon has about all the different types of jaspers you can imagine as well as the finest obsidain you can find anywhere.  Mt. St Helens alone in Washington has a large variety of jasters and agates!  Joe

I knew from the get go that this list isn't 100% accurate.  Maybe we can all add in what we know and make a resource page...maybe go as far as description and a picture..it would be a nice page especiall for folk who are just getting started...

Wolf Watcher:
A really detailed and accurate list maybe made up from someone from each state would be invaluable.  We could all add to the list!  Joe
