Osage or something else? Help indentifying...
« on: February 19, 2013, 07:09:52 pm »
I was out strolling through my woods, in search of Osage. I found 3 trees like this within about 20 feet of one another. Any idea what this is?

Bark looks like pecan.  The dead leaf too.

It may hard to believe, but the first time you see an osage tree, you will know it. Its not a tree you just walk by. Its bark doesnt match any others. The twisty, beefy branches and the orangish hue to some of thier bark. Very different than any others you see daily.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

I might have to go harvest one. The one had a nice, straight piece about 6 feet long and 4 inches in diameter. Maybe get a decent stave out of it.
