Hickory pyramid layout?

I have a great hickory stave that I got from Cracker last year at the classic and want to make myself a pyramid design bow.  Here are the dimensions I was thinking about.  66" NTN, 5" handle and 1 1/2 fades.  1 3/4 wide at the fades tapering straight to 3/8"  I draw 26 1/2 on my good days and would like the bow to finish up at 45lbs.  And was going to start with a heavy 3/8" thickness.  Think it would work?

Well...if ya wanna play with that junk....id start wider than that Charlie..like 2 1/4-2 1/2" at the fades tapering to 3/8" tips..and Eiffel tower taper the last 10" and keep the last 8" stiff...and trap half of the back..and heat treat it....then if ya baby it and keep it dry it'll be a pretty good shooting bow. Got all that?

Oh...forgot to say when you heat treat it to temper in 3" of reflex...seriously do you understand all that...I know I said it in short terms.

Not real sure on the Eiffel tower taper the last 10" when you are tapering straight from fade to tip?  I got the last 8" of tip being stiff.

I realize not everyone likes a short bow, but that is an awful lot of wood to only get 45# @ 26-27". I'm not being negative Charlie just throwing that out there.

I can handle bows down to about 62" JonW, but after that I get a lot of finger pinch that I don't like.  I am open to suggestions though.  Just want to play with this hickory and get a decent shooting bow out of it.

For a stiff handle 62" is what I would go for. 2 1/2" at the fades would be a good width to make 45# and you probably won't get much set.

Instead of the last 10" being a straight taper make it a concave taper....understand?...IMO what I mentioned is prob the best design for a hickory selfbow...it'll be smooth pulling..shockless..and send a mean arrow.

Yeah you're probably right Chris. That would be the easiest to tiller. After all it don't take much bend for a 66" long piece of wood to go to 26" draw. Even I could tiller that.
