Something like this bubby??
« on: February 15, 2013, 09:05:12 pm »
As the story goes bub said if I tried to make a horse bow he would supply the horse hair. I accepted that challenge, but never even thought about a super short horse type bow before that day. When the package arrived it not only had horse hair in it, but some buffalo fur as well.....too cool bub. This bow is 45" ntn, 1 1/4" wide max, pulls 42# @ 25". It has three layers of sinew and hide glue. The skins are actually a single skin. I had one big ol' WDB laying around with no match in sight. I split it down the center and thought the triangles it formed looked NA like, so I stuck with them. The grip is from a muskrat I tanned last year and the string silencers are buffalo hair from bub, as is the tassel from his horse hair. This little turd flings a mean arrow and could easily take a whitetail. I was thinking about using it as my swap bow, but that's cheating.... >:D The full draw pic is dead nutz 25". You can see a faint yellow stripe right on top of my finger. Enjoy and as always criticism welcome.

Dang that turned out great.  That is a heck of a lot of bend in that full draw picture.  Skins, fur, handle, everything looks perfect on that bow.  I bet she's a mean little critter.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

look at that thing bend! very nice little shooter!
but i need to warn you you have a packrat nest in the corner of your workshop you better do something about.
he'll steal ya blind...   he might actually make a good grip on a bow
when i'm working on things my ancestors worked, singing the songs my ancestors sang, dancing the same dances, speaking the same language, only then  I feel connected to the land, THIS land, where my ancestors walked for thousands of years...

Rob the hair bundle was glued together at one end. I drilled a shallow hole and glued it in.
