Sapale as a bow wood?

A wood I know little about as far as it's use in belly wood, anyone with any expirience?

i think he means sapele, i was looking at a laminated stave on ebay that had a sapele core. i think it is like a cheap type of mahogany, i have no idea how good it is for making bows though.

Oops...... Sapele is the correct spelling....so yes, guess it has a different name. :laugh:

Info i came up with on it says it has interlocking grain,SG 0.55, strength similar to red oak. Might be worth a try.

Funny you posted this wood as I have used it for riser and overlays and love the grain and color. My custom trim shop guy gave me a piece over 8' x 2". I was going to play with. maybe back with boo for one and w/oak as another. Cadillac used it in the dash accents on some of their cars.
The middle Ipe bow, bottom piece of riser is sapele.

Funny this should be posted, now. I have never worked with it, but my neighbor was over at my shop yesterday and we were discussing various woods I had stacked up (ipe, massuranduba, etc.) and how bad their respective sawdust was for the lungs and sinuses. He asked if I had ever worked this wood. (His dad is a wood worker) He said the sawdust from it is some really bad stuff.
