"Hot Tin Roof" bow

This summer at a bow building gathering, someone gave me an osage stave that he had for 8 years, unfortunately he was storing it on the roof of his shed. surprisingly the growth rings are superb, about 3/16" thick, but i did have to go down several rings to get past the deep checking. This didn't leave much wood and the wood that is there is discolored, still has some longitudinal cracks, knots, snakes and probably some other issues. This will be by far my most challenging bow, if it even stays together. I'll keep you updated.

I love bows with stories behind them. You can only build so many before the stories start stacking up! Great looking stave.

Yeah, I agree with Pearl.  Lot's of stories in these bows we build.  This one will be a memorable one for you and rightly so.  Good luck with it and look forward to seeing and hearing from it when finished.

Isn't it amazing how a weathered ole hedge post can hide within it a golden stave of wonderful character? Give her a go, can't wait to see the end result.   Danny
