Scarey Yew
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:19:29 pm »
I was gifted this knotty Yew stave when I was at Pappy's hunting this Fall, thanks, John. it was a challenge for me with all of the knots, especially the ones on the side of the limb. I also had to back it with rawhide for insurance and then dug out one of those light, pinkish colored Timber Rattler skins I had.
I removed a lot of sapwood, tillering from the back, in order to keep some of that pretty yew color on the belly. I violated every bump, limb and knot on the back doing it, where the scarey part came from.

I saw it was going to come out light for me so I decided to make it for my wife or daughter, whichever one wants it. it is 59" nock to nock, 30# @ 28", fast flight string with micarta tips. Oh yea, I named it,"Happy Hour". Glad it was finished and the arrow rest is the cork from the bottle of Merlot I was drinking when I finished it.  :)

WOW that doesnt hardly look like you in that pic Eddie? Must be funny lighting.

Nice bow, at 59" she must be working OT.

Great bow Mullet.  Is that bottle of Merlot the reason it finished up a little light?   ;D

beautiful bow.  Nice work!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?
