I was gifted this knotty Yew stave when I was at Pappy's hunting this Fall, thanks, John. it was a challenge for me with all of the knots, especially the ones on the side of the limb. I also had to back it with rawhide for insurance and then dug out one of those light, pinkish colored Timber Rattler skins I had.
I removed a lot of sapwood, tillering from the back, in order to keep some of that pretty yew color on the belly. I violated every bump, limb and knot on the back doing it, where the scarey part came from.
I saw it was going to come out light for me so I decided to make it for my wife or daughter, whichever one wants it. it is 59" nock to nock, 30# @ 28", fast flight string with micarta tips. Oh yea, I named it,"Happy Hour". Glad it was finished and the arrow rest is the cork from the bottle of Merlot I was drinking when I finished it.
