knot ?

what kind of epoxies do you guys use when filling knots, got some on a bow i'm working on, Bub

I use a '151' a 10 minute epoxy mixed with saw dust, use plenty of dust until the mix feels too dry. As it's tamped into the hole it seems to get wetter some how. Anything bigger than about 1/8" I'll stick in a peg using the same epoxy.

We were using clear epoxy [24 hr.] stuff seems to be stronger, that's my 2 cents.

Loctite brand super glue for any and all fillin's I do. I will fill some big ol' knots with it.......you might just find that out bub!

I use super glue also. No specific variety just whatever I pick up. I usually put super glue on every knot and pin on the back of a bow I'm building and sometimes the belly side after tillering. If the knots are hollow I will start with a little glue then sprinkle fine saw dust and let it set then I do it again and again if necessary until the filled knot is flush with the limb surface. I found if I try to fill a knot at one time I sometimes got voids that the glue didn't penetrate. By doing it in layers I'm assured a good, solid repair.

This is a knot fillin' job :o  (90# ELB)
Excavated, filled with sawdust/epoxy, then:-
Drilled for a plug, filed flat.
Drilled for a plug, filed flat.
Drilled for a plug, filed flat.
Drilled for a plug, filed flat, ok the last plug was a tad smaller than the other 3/8" ones  :o
Don't reckon there's enough superglue in the UK to fill that bad boy, it was sooo deep I struck oil >:D
The important thing about it is that there's good sound continuous sapwood over the area.
