55# ash board recurve
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:42:57 am »
hi all got my ash board static recurve finished. its is 55# at 25" and 62" NTN . i had allot of messing to do with the recurves as they cracked whilst bending. i had to laminate extra wood on to strengthen them. i have finished with  walnut stain and plenty of coats  danish oil.  i have used walnut for the tip overlays .  it is backed with hessian string. i havent wrapped the handle yet and put the arrow pass on.  heres some pics

Good to see you didnt give up on those tension cracks.

That's a beauty, I like working Ash.  It is light and easy work with.  I have a Ash ambush bendy handle bow I need to get some pictures of and post.

Nice bow Danny. Great curves, nice work on the tip underlays and fine tiller to boot. Hows she shoot? Looks like it would hit on target
with the deep cut in shelf.

cheers everyone. im pleased how it turned out after the recurves splitting.  i thought it was a goner at first, thanks to advice from this forum it was corrected. it shoots nice. i seem to hit more consistantly than with my other bow so its all  good so far.  the grain turned out better than expected with the stain, as  soon as i wiped it on i thought wow. half eye i wish bow hunting was legal over here as i would love to give it a go one day. i may have to emigrate to the USA.  :)

Nice job on that one, for sure. I need to get my courage up to flipping some tips. Those turned out great!! ;)

That's a real eye-catcher.  I love how that stain makes the grain pop out.  Good recovery! :)
