Those last pics look like Hickory, the bark on the first ones did not look right for Hickory to me.

I am looking at a piece of hickory and a piece of Red elm right now, definitely going with hickory as an ID.
Giving it your best effort is what anyone should expect.

Haha, yeah I had thought about it but when I tried to split a couple the broke up a bit and when I had finished the other stuff I had no motivation to fight those any more.  I do have some shorter splits that will likely end up as billets.
