concrete countertops with embedded obsidian
« on: January 15, 2013, 12:37:48 am »
these countertops are made with glass buttes obsidian and concrete. first I ground some spalls flat, then i put them in the bottom of a mold. once it dried, i ground the surface with a diamond grinder. next, I will polish and coat with epoxy.

A related story;

There was a guy in Stevenson Al who, according to legend, was the first to excavate the Indian mounds on Long Island near Bridgeport Al. His finds were so extensive he didn't have a place to store them all. He had a real estate office in town, when he cast the concrete sidewalk to the office he used arrow heads instead of gravel for the mix, not junkers but nice stuff.

Now, this was a time long ago when arrowheads had little value. I remember walking on that sidewalk in the early seventies thinking"what kind of bozo would make a side walk with so many great points embedded in it"?
