Toothing Plane work like a Stanley Surfom?

For the purposes of wood removal (shaping a stave and rough tillering) does a Toothing Plane do a comparable job to a Stanley Surform?

Hi, I have toothing plane, but don't use it for bow making.  It's my understanding, that toothing planes were specifically designed to create a grooved surface on wood that was about to be veneered, not for wood removal.  That's the way mine works.  I don't think that there is much relationship to Surform tools.    Ron

Sure form tools are made for drywall. They don't remove wood very well. A toothing plane will work for roughing up the back of the bow for glueing on certain types of backing.
