I've got so many bows started lately and it's been too hot and too many mosquito's for me to get in the shop.Well it cooled down this weekend so I took a break from slogging through the swamp and finished up a bow.
Bob,(Kowachobe),gave me a real nice Ipe stave back in Feb.I've never worked it before and really didn't want to mess up such a good piece of wood.So I backed it with Bamboo ground down almost paper thin. It's been quite awhile since I made a simple bow so I decided to make a bend in the handle "D" bow.
This bow is 68",nock to nock, #58 @28"I made it 7/8" at the center, handle area and tapers down to less than a 1/4" nocks. The tip overlays is American Bison that Justin Snyder sent me.And the handle area is wrapped in hemp.
I fell in love with this wood and cannot believe how "Blazing" fast this bow is.I think I can take some more wood off the tips and make it a little faster. It was glued up with no setback and after shooting it about 60 times and leaving it strung for several hours it has taken about a half inch of set.I'm very pleased to say the least.
