Ipe/boo tiller ck please (update full draw)
« on: January 09, 2013, 01:52:27 am »
hey gang, need some eyes and input please. 62ttt 50lb@25 Ipe/boo purple heart power lam. very fast and a super hard hitter
Should the outer 1/3 bend more?, they are getting thin.
the left is a tad stiffer at the fade than the right. Its just ruff out still needs finish sanding, and handle shaped, then finish applied.
Thanks, Graylan

to me it looks like the outer half the limb on each side could bend a smidgen more but i would wait until a few more chime in before taking my advice and or discarding it.

Yes the left is stiffer than the right and both are flat from midlimb out, alittle.  Personally, at this point in the tiller, I would forego the tree and pull by hand from the arrow nock point.  Gonna be a great bow.

I have not finished mine yet But I've been told the outer 3rd to be a little stiff on the boo/ipecombo for better performance.... but that's just what I've been told.....i I think it looks alright
Is this bow making a sickness? or the cure...

I think the right limb is ok, the left needs more bend from the vert line marked 12 out, take a 5" long board and run it on the belly and check for gaps, Bub

I'd say left is stiff and it's outer 2/3 isn't flexing much.
Unbraced pic would help (I'm assuming it's not an RD)
Could do final tillering on width esp' near tips.
I agree with SteveB, always pull from arrow nock point and support where hand will support bow.
Del
Just noticed, if you look at your own curves draw on the backboard, it shows the left is stiff on last 1/3

You guys are nit pickin'!! That tiller looks great. Finish it up, and start shooting it. Stiff tips will make it fast.

Yup, I wish mine looked that good.

Thanks Muffin,
Steve B, Maybe I can get the wife to take some full draw shots tonight and post those before removing more wood, if its not to dark.
Thanks Soy, it feels good. good luck on yours.

Bub, I forgot to ck with a flat block, newbee mistake.  :embarrassed:
I have not finished the handle yet as I was waiting to decide on which was the bottom limb.

After The limbs look close to being even and the draw weight was close, I picked the Rt limb as top and shot it about 25 times, Bow feels stronger than 50lb and brace is at 5" with a very tight string. Bow has the same feel all through the draw. even with the handle full width and guessing at nock point, it  shot very well at 30yds. I shot split finger.

Paleo & catman, I'll load some photos of the front and unstrung horz for you. I keep it braced all last nite and it look good this morning.
Thanks, Pearly and adb, A newbee needs more nick pickin, I did ask for it.
Heres a few photos until I can get more. Did I say its fast  ;D
Also, thats 4 different length's and weight arrows. seems to shoot all ok.

maybe I'm nit pickin', that's just what I see I'd have just taken about 5 scrapes on the rt limb,, and I leave my tips a little stiff as well, my spydie sense tells me it's a shooter either way Bub

adb, stiff tips don't make every bow fast.

spyder1958, looks to me like you're already really close to getting it finished up so maybe save this criticism for the next bow. With the front view profile you have the bow should be very elliptically tillered. As it is now its doing more bending in the inner limbs than the outer which is the complete opposite direction of where you'd want to go with it.

Tiller is looking good. I would scrape the outer limb some more.  On your next bow i would choose to taper the front profile of the bow earlier than those tips wont  get that  thin. (thickness) imho it  would also look better.
