Tips for bow drill in the snow

Made a quick video with little tips on bow drill fire in deep snow, hope it may help some of you guys!

good tips all along the process too.
Where in Quebec are you from? Been to Wendake many times visiting my Wendat brothers and sisters there.

What's the name of that tall plant which you pulled like seed pods or something off? Not the cat tail, the second plant? Thanks

I'd like to make one of those fire bow drill things, never done that. Does the fire board need to be softer wood than the spindle? Being from Pa, would poplar and walnut work? How about Sitka spruce, I have boards of that too. Thanks, Roy

I get very few reply on this forum so I was not coming here no more. Feel free to reply on my youtube account, I will answer the same day.

The second plant ... I do not know the name of it ... look carefully at it in full screen, it is very unique you will not find other plant like this.
nah ... it really does not matter at all about using a harder spindle or heart board. I was reading it back in the days and ... at the beginning I was wasting time finding different species of spindle for the heart board and realised that ... using the same species for both the board and spindle works perfectly... populus works good  but make your spindle very large, if not you will get a black powder that can't catch on fire (already burned dust).  Spruce works to but it is my least favorite of conifer, if you have Balsam, thuja (ceadar) or pine, go for them.
