Point weight affect on spine
« on: December 30, 2012, 12:24:09 pm »
Hi guys,

I am curious what point weight's specific affect on spine is. I know the rule of thumb that a heavier point weakens the spine, but is there any specific formula? I have heard that every 15 grains or so above 125 grains reduces the spine by 5# and was wondering if this was accurate?

Jon, I think that is the formula...and of course less than 125 will increase spine.

Yep, I was playing around in the shop with some different sized trade points one day and had to make an arrow that spined at 100 pounds to shoot a 275 grain trade point off of 50 pound bow.

Jon I will be honest and tell you unless its 40-50 grains more, you will never notice with a selfbow at hunting distances. I have arrows with 125, 145 and 160 on them, the 160 is BARELY more quiet than the other two, POI is the same at my skill level.
