Source of Snare Wire???

The woods are full of squirrels this year.
I have been knocking them out of the trees with my 22.

Have been giving some thought to making a squirrel pole and seeing if I can trap some.

What can I use as snare wire???   There must be something that is comman and easy to find that will make good snares for a squirrel pole.

i have a few rolls of 7x19 braided stainless cable for coyote snares.i don't know if it will work for your application.it is pretty thin stuff.send me a pm if you are interested.

     You can get some pretty small diameter stainless strand wire at Ace, or other hardware stores.  Try the heavier weight "Power Pro" fishing line, 50 lb. and up etc.  You could also use the lighter weight leader wire, with the clips to make your loops, etc.
I used some of the stainless strand wire for a weed eater that my Neighbor loaned me.  I bought the smaller, and an 1/8 inch also.  I don't remember what the smaller diameter was but it was about a 1/16", or so. I think there was a smaller one also available.  Not sure now.

I buy military surplus "snare wire" on survival websites or ebay for about 5 bucks. cheap, works great, delivered to my mailbox.

I have found some 30 lb mono-fishing line in my pile of fishing stuff.

Getting the knots to tie right is proving to be a challange.

It apperes that I am going to have to tie a "tiny" loop in the end of the line and then make a loop by feeding the end on the line through the loop.

Go to lowes or HD......head to the hardware section, specifically the picture hanging area...galvanized picture wire.....perfect for up to groundhogs and coons....lethal on squirrels and rabbits!

My wife has some of that.  Looking at two pack of it now.

One pack is called a Picture Hanging Kit.  Rated at 20lb's.  Sort of a loose braded cable.  Plenty strong for small game.

The other is called Heavy Duty Coated Picture Wire.  Much larger, tight twist, plastic coated cable.  Looks like it would hold a large animal quite well.

I am quite sure she buys this stuff at Wallie- Smarts.  Will take a look see in a day or two.
