Gallberry Basket
« on: December 22, 2012, 02:46:04 pm »
As Promised, I decided to make a "stick" basket. I used green Gallberry shoots. They bend very nicely. I don't have any willow here local so Gallberry was my substitute. Its a little over 12" wide and 6" deep.  I would have gone a tad bigger but used every single stick I cut! Not too bad for a first "stick" basket. Next one will likely turn out a little smoother. This one is very solid though and still green. Betting it will be rock solid when it seasons. This will probably carry my rock spalls out of the woods better than a weak cardboard box like I was using!  One more skill learned, but not mastered

Gallberry is in the Holly family. It doesnt seem to grow real big. can grow pretty straight but not reallly tough enough for arrows.
